Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 egg
For the Garlic Herb Cheese Filling:
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup shredded cheddar or Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg, then mix until combined.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Prepare the Garlic Herb Butter
- In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, oregano, basil, and salt.
Step 3: Roll & Fill the Dough
- Roll the dough into a 10×14-inch rectangle.
- Spread the garlic herb butter evenly over the dough.
- Sprinkle with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
Step 4: Shape the Bread
- Roll the dough into a log, then cut it lengthwise into two strips.
- Twist the two strips together into a swirl or braid.
- Place in a greased loaf pan or shape into a free-form loaf on a baking sheet.
Step 5: Let Rise & Bake
- Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
Step 6: Serve & Enjoy
- Let the bread cool slightly before slicing.
