To make this garlic herb and cheese bread, you’ll need:

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 egg

For the Garlic Herb Cheese Filling:

  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar or Parmesan cheese


Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg, then mix until combined.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Prepare the Garlic Herb Butter

  • In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, oregano, basil, and salt.

Step 3: Roll & Fill the Dough

  1. Roll the dough into a 10×14-inch rectangle.
  2. Spread the garlic herb butter evenly over the dough.
  3. Sprinkle with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

Step 4: Shape the Bread

  1. Roll the dough into a log, then cut it lengthwise into two strips.
  2. Twist the two strips together into a swirl or braid.
  3. Place in a greased loaf pan or shape into a free-form loaf on a baking sheet.

Step 5: Let Rise & Bake

  1. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.

  • Let the bread cool slightly before slicing.
