Step 1: Preheat & Prepare the Pan
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square cake pan (or line with parchment paper).
Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
Step 3: Cream the Butter
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes).
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Step 4: Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, mixing after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Mix until just combined—don’t overmix!
Step 5: Bake the Cake
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
