White Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ cups cake flour, sifted
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 6 egg whites, room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy (3–4 minutes).
  4. Beat in egg whites one at a time.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, starting and ending with flour.
  6. Stir in vanilla extract.
  7. Divide batter between pans and bake 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool in pans for 10 mins, then transfer to wire racks. Cool completely before frosting.
