Tartar Sauce

In the world of condiments, few are as beloved, versatile, and instantly recognizable as Tartar Sauce. Whether it’s dolloped generously over crispy fish fillets, served as a dip for fries, or used as a zesty sandwich spread, tartar sauce has long been a favorite across cultures and cuisines. Creamy, tangy, and loaded with texture, this humble sauce is more than just a side—it’s a flavor powerhouse that brings dishes to life.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional, for depth)
  • 2 tbsp chopped dill pickles or pickle relish
  • 1 tbsp capers, drained and chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp chopped fresh dill or parsley (or both)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise and mustard.
  2. Add pickles, capers, lemon juice, and herbs. Stir well to combine.
  3. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes for the flavors to meld.

Notes

Pro Tip: The longer it rests, the better it gets. Make it ahead and store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
