Ingredients

- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour πΎ
- 1/4 cup sugar or honey π―
- 1 tsp baking powder π₯
- 1/2 tsp salt π§
- 1 cup buttermilk or milk π₯
- 1 egg, beaten π₯
- 2 tbsp melted butter π§
- 1/4 cup honey butter (for brushing) π―π§
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola) π’οΈ
Instructions
In a bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar (if using), baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk, egg, and melted butter. Combine wet and dry ingredients, then stir in honey (if not using sugar). Let rest 5 minutes.
Roll the mixture into small balls or scoop using a spoon (about 1 inch in size). If batter is too soft, chill for 10 minutes.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry poppers 2-3 minutes per side until crispy and golden. Drain on paper towels.
While warm, brush poppers with melted honey butter for sweet, buttery magic.
Serve warm with extra honey butter or dips like spicy mayo or ranch for contrast.
