Purple Velvet Cake Recipe Card

Ingredients

Cake:

  • 2ยฝ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1ยฝ cups sugar

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp cocoa powder

  • 1ยฝ cups vegetable oil

  • 1 cup buttermilk (room temp)

  • 2 large eggs (room temp)

  • 2 tbsp red food coloring

  • 1 tsp white distilled vinegar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp purple food coloring (or as needed)

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 1 lb cream cheese, softened

  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, room temp

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 4 cups sifted confectionersโ€™ sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. Sift flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.

  3. In another bowl, beat oil, buttermilk, eggs, food colorings, vinegar, and vanilla.

  4. Combine dry ingredients with wet, mixing until smooth.

  5. Divide into pans and bake 25โ€“30 minutes. Cool completely.

  6. For frosting, beat cream cheese, butter, and vanilla until smooth. Add sugar, beat until fluffy.

  7. Frost cooled cake and chill before slicing.
