If there’s one dish that brings people together around the grill, it’s Lebanese Kafta Kebabs. These juicy, flavorful skewers are a staple in Lebanese and Middle Eastern cuisine, known for their bold seasoning and irresistible aroma. Made with ground beef or lamb, fresh herbs, and warm spices, kafta kebabs are easy to prepare and packed with deep, smoky flavors.

Ingredients

For the Kafta Kebabs:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or a mix of beef and lamb)
  • ½ cup finely chopped parsley
  • 1 small onion, finely grated or minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For Serving (Optional but Recommended!):

  • Pita bread
  • Hummus or garlic sauce
  • Grilled onions and tomatoes
  • Rice or salad
  • Fresh lemon wedges

Instructions

1. Prepare the Kafta Mixture

  • In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, parsley, onion, garlic, and spices.
  • Use your hands to combine the ingredients until well incorporated, but don’t overmix—this keeps the meat tender.

2. Shape the Kebabs

  • Divide the meat mixture into equal portions (about 8-10 pieces).
  • Roll each portion into a cylinder shape, about 4-5 inches long.
  • If using skewers, shape the meat around them, pressing gently so they hold together. If not using skewers, simply form oval-shaped patties.

3. Cook the Kafta (Grill, Oven, or Stovetop!)

Option 1: Grill (Best for Smoky Flavor)

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  • Brush the grill with oil to prevent sticking.
  • Place the skewers on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, turning until nicely charred and cooked through.

Option 2: Oven (Easy and Hands-Free!)

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Arrange the kafta kebabs on a lined baking sheet.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes, flipping halfway through. For extra browning, broil for 2 minutes at the end.

Option 3: Stovetop (Quick and Convenient!)

  • Heat a pan or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  • Add a little olive oil and cook the kafta for 4-5 minutes per side until browned and fully cooked.
