Jammy Hot Caramelized Onion Dip

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter 🧈
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced 🧅
  • 1 tsp sugar 🍬
  • 1/4 tsp salt 🧂
  • 1/2 tsp balsamic vinegar or wine vinegar 🍷
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened 🧀
  • 1/2 cup sour cream 🥛
  • 1/2 cup mayo (optional for extra richness) 🍶
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère, mozzarella, or cheddar) 🧀
  • Fresh thyme or parsley for garnish 🌿

Instructions

1. Caramelize the Onions

In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions, sugar, and salt. Cook slowly, stirring often, for 25-30 minutes, until onions are deep golden and jammy. Stir in vinegar.

2. Mix the Dip

In a bowl, mix cream cheese, sour cream, mayo (if using), and half the shredded cheese. Fold in caramelized onions.

3. Bake to Perfection

Transfer to a baking dish. Top with remaining cheese. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, until golden and bubbling.

4. Serve Hot

Garnish with thyme or parsley. Serve warm with crackers, bread, chips, or veggies.
