Ingredients
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: hot sauce or cayenne pepper for heat (adjust to taste)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine all the ingredients over medium heat.
- Stir well to ensure everything is thoroughly mixed. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and allow the sauce to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until it thickens slightly. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed. For a spicier sauce, add hot sauce or cayenne pepper according to your preference.
- Once the sauce has reached your desired consistency and flavor profile, remove the pan from the heat. Allow the sauce to cool slightly before transferring it to a jar or container.
- Store the BBQ sauce in the refrigerator in a container with a tight-fitting lid. It can be kept for up to a few weeks.
