Grandma’s Apple Dumplings

Ingredients

  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar, divided
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 canned biscuits (Pillsbury buttermilk recommended)
  • 4 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Peel, core, and slice apples vertically into 8 slices each. Cover with cold water.
  3. In a saucepan, combine water, 3/4 cup sugar, butter, and vanilla. Bring to a boil.
  4. Separate biscuits in half. Wrap each around an apple slice, overlapping and sealing the dough.
  5. Place sealed-side down in a 9×13″ baking pan.
  6. Pour hot sugar mixture over wrapped apples.
  7. Mix remaining 1/4 cup sugar with cinnamon. Sprinkle over the top.
  8. Bake 35 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
