Chicken Souvlaki

Chicken Souvlaki is a beloved Greek street food known for its simplicity and depth of flavor. It features tender pieces of chicken marinated in a fragrant blend of lemon, garlic, and traditional Greek seasonings, then grilled to perfection. This dish is not only a testament to the power of simple ingredients coming together to create something delightful but also a versatile option for any meal. Whether served on skewers at a summer barbecue, tucked into a warm pita for a hearty gyro, or as part of a colorful Greek salad, Chicken Souvlaki promises a bite filled with zest and aroma.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • 4 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tablespoons Greek Seasoning
  • 1 large lemon, juiced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. In a ziplock bag, combine olive oil, white wine vinegar, minced garlic, Greek Seasoning, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Shake well to mix the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the bag. Seal and shake the bag to coat the chicken thoroughly with the marinade. Refrigerate and let marinate overnight, or for at least 6 hours, to enhance the flavors.
  3. Once marinated, remove the chicken from the bag and discard the leftover marinade. Thread the chicken onto skewers.
  4. Preheat the grill. Grill the skewered chicken until it is thoroughly cooked, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  5. Serve the Chicken Souvlaki warm. It pairs beautifully with Tzatziki sauce for dipping, can be used as a topping for a Greek salad, or wrapped in pita bread for delicious chicken gyros. Complement with Greek sides or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
