When it comes to building a successful vegetarian dish, it’s all about balance—both in flavor and texture. That’s where broccoli and mushrooms shine as a duo:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb broccoli florets

  • 10 oz sliced mushrooms

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

  • 2 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch. Set aside.

  2. Cook the broccoli: Blanch the broccoli in boiling water for 30 seconds, then drain and rinse with cold water.

  3. Stir-fry: Heat the oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture and start to brown.

  4. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the broccoli and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes.

  5. Add the sauce: Pour the sauce over the vegetables and stir continuously until the sauce thickens.

  6. Serve: Remove from heat and serve immediately.

Tips for Success

Want to level up your stir-fry game? Here are a few helpful tips:

  • Use a wok if possible: The high sides and even heat distribution make stir-frying easier.

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan: Mushrooms need space to brown, not steam.

  • Pre-measure everything: Stir-fries move fast—have your ingredients ready before you start cooking.
