- 4 large baking apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 1/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup apple cider or water (for baking dish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Core apples, removing the seeds and creating a cavity, but don’t cut through the bottom.
- In a bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, nuts, and raisins.
- Stuff each apple with the mixture, then top each with a pat of butter.
- Place apples in a baking dish, add cider or water to the bottom to prevent sticking.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, until apples are tender and sauce is bubbling.
- Let cool slightly. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
