    • 1 1/2 cups flour

    • 2 teaspoons baking powder

    • 1 tablespoon sugar

    • 1/4 teaspoon salt

    • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

    • 2/3 cup milk


Instructions

    1. In a large, wide saucepan, combine blackberries, water, 1 cup of sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and lemon extract. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

    1. For the dumplings, mix together flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, nutmeg, and milk until just combined.

    1. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter into the simmering blackberry mixture. Cover tightly and allow to simmer for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.

    1. Serve the dumplings warm, topped with vanilla ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream.

Notes

For an extra festive touch, sprinkle a hint of cinnamon on top just before serving!
